Conference on Representation of Algebras C R A S P July, 19-24, 1999 Sao Paulo, Brazil Dear colleagues, We have now a list of hotels which will be used to host the participants of CRASP. In this message we also give some further informations on the conference and at the end you will find a registration form. One can also register directly in our webpage, where all the informations on the conference is also available. We shall keep the list of participants there (please check if your registration has been received by us looking at this list). The webpage of the conference is http://www.ime.usp.br/~crasp For those who have already registered we ask to send us your option of hotels as soon as possible (we will not complain if you re-send the whole registration form). Recall that the deadline for submitting an abstract (and also for the reduced registration fee) is April, 15th. Looking forward to see you here in Sao Paulo, our best regards, Flavio Ulhoa Coelho Organizing Committee CRASP =============================== Hotels ============================= Below you will find a list of hotels and their prices. They are located in the so-called "Jardins", which is a very nice part of the city with many restaurants, museums, shops, etc. They are also very closed to each other. To book a room you should send us your options (together with your registration form) and we will take care of it. All of the hotels listed below have limited number of rooms reserved for us and we shall try to allocate the participants according to the given options. The conference buses will leave to the University from (or very close to) the following hotels: Blair House, Four Seasons, and Lorena Flat. In our opinion, Blair House, Four Seasons and Poeta Drummond are more comfortable than Lorena Flat. The prices are fixed in Reais (the Brazilian currency, also indicated by R$) and they are guaranteed for those registering before April, 15th. We expect that the hotels will keep these prices after that, but we can never be sure. Remarks. (i) Concerning the exchange rate. The exchange rate in March/99 is US$ 1 = R$ 1,90 (before the economical crisis of January it was US$ 1 = R$ 1,20). It seems that it is more or less stable by now and the optimistic say that the Real will regain its value against the Dollar slowly until reaching the rate US$ 1 = R$ 1,70 by the middle of the year. We shall keep the rate updated in our webpage. (ii) The flats bellow have normally, besides the bedroom(s), a private bathroom, a small living room and most of them a small kitchen (the exception being the flat for three persons in the Lorena Flat). (iii) The prices include breakfast. - FOUR SEASON (Rua Cardeal Arcoverde, 201) This Flat has been inaugurated less than one year ago. They have two kinds of apartments: (i) with one bedroom for one or two guests; and (ii) with two bedrooms, one with two beds and the other with a single bed (for at most three guests). The prices are: Single R$ 80,00 Double R$ 100,00 Triple R$ 130,00 The conference buses will serve this hotel. - BLAIR HOUSE (Alameda Franca, 1645, 200 meters from Lorena Flat) They have flats with one or two beds. The prices are: Single R$ 89,00 Double R$ 92,00 The conference buses will serve this hotel. - LORENA FLAT (Av. RebouíÂs, ) They have flats for up to three guests. The flat for three guests normally do not have kitchen, but all have frigobar. The prices are: Single R$ 84,00 Double R$ 101,00 Triple R$ 122,00 The conference buses will serve this hotel. - POETA DRUMMOND (Rua da Consolaîåo, 3101) They have flats with one or two beds. The prices are: Single R$ 100,00 Double R$ 120,00 This hotel is not going to be served by the conference buses, but it is located at 300 meters from Lorena Flat, which is going to be served by them. - POUSADA ZILAH. We have a very limited number of cheaper rooms (preferently reserved to the students) in a Pousada very close to the hotel Blair. Those wishing one of these rooms should contact the organizers via e-mail to crasp@ime.usp.br. =========================== Financial support ========================= We are expecting to have a (limited) amount of money to help the participants with difficulties in getting financial support from other sources. Please state in your registration form if you want to be considered for such support. We shall have a final position of this matter by June. ==================== Registration Form ======================= There is a possibility to register yourself via our webpage http://www.ime.usp.br/~crasp You can also fill the below form and return it to the postal or E-mail address or FAX below. Smal\o\ (Trondheim, Norway). - Pu Zhang (Beijing, China). Those wishing to present their work in one of the contributed sessions should submit an abstract by April, 15th. The final programme will be arranged on the basis of abstracts provided by participants and it will be availabe June, 15 in the internet. ======================= Abstracts ========================== The deadline for submiting an abstract is April, 15, 1999. We appreciate if the abstract is submitted via e-mail to crasp@ime.usp.br in a TEX/LATEX file. It should be no longer than one page and should clearly state the results to be presented. We shall distribute to all participants the abstracts obtained in time. =============== Registration/ registration fee ================ The registration can be made either in the internet or by returning the form below via e-mail to crasp@ime.usp.br or via the ordinary post or by FAX (see the directions below). The registration fee for those registrating before April, 15 is US$ 80,00 and after that it will be US$ 100,00. The students pay half of these values. The payment can be made in the first day of the conference. The registration fee includes the scientific material to be distributed, the coffee breaks, the transportations between the hotels and the University and the wellcome reception. ========================== Hotels ============================ We are negotiating with some hotels in a central region of Sao Paulo called Jardins and a list of them will be available by March, 1999. The approximate prices will be in the range US$ 55 - 70 for a single room, US$ 80 - 100 for a double room and US$ 75 - 105 for a triple room per day. We are also trying to get some cheaper accomodation for the students. ========================= Proceedings ========================== We are planing to publish the proceedings of the conference consisting of refereed papers submitted by the conference participants. Further informations will be given later on. ===================== Social events =========================== A wellcome reception will take place in the Campus on Monday, 19, after the talks. For Wednesday, 21, in the afternoon, we are organizing an excursion. More details will be available later on in the internet. On Saturday, 24, after the talks in the morning we are organizing a celebration lunch in a Churrascaria. Althought the main dishs are meat, vegetarians will also be wellcome and far from being disappointed with the salad buffet it will be also provided. ====================== How to get there ======================= The international airport of Sao Paulo (Guarulhos) is located 30 km away from the city. A good bus shuttle service is available to get you downtown and costs about US$ 9,00. From there you will need a taxi for a short ride to the hotel. A taxi from the airport to the hotel will cost you about US$ 40,00. A more precise information of how to go to the hotels by bus/taxi will be available later on in the internet. We expect that most participants will arrive on Sunday, 18 and so we are organizing for this day a direct transportation to the hotel. Additional transportation could be organized if a group of participants arrive at the same time in some previous day. Please let us know at your earliest convenience the precise date, time and flight number of your arrival in Sao Paulo in order to help us in the organization of this transport. ===================== and how to survive ========================= The brazilian currency is called real (meaning royal in portuguese). The exchange rate is now (january/99) R$ 1,45 for each american dollar but it is expected some turbulency in the next months. We shall keep the exchange rate updated in our webpage in the internet. We recommend you to check with the closest Brazilian diplomatic office whether or not you will need a VISA to visit our country. We usually say that the weather in Sao Paulo in July is a tropical winter (we can either have warm sunny days: 10-24C, or rainy cool days: 6-15C. Sweaters, jackets or light overcoats are usually enough for these periods). ==================== Registration Form ======================= There is a possibility to register yourself via our webpage http://www.ime.usp.br/~crasp You can also fill the bellow form and return it to the postal or E-mail address or FAX below.
